Stewardship Commission

Bishop Doran established the Stewardship Commission of the Diocese of Rockford in 1996. The Commission’s role has been to provide leadership for implementing Stewardship as a way of life for the people of the Diocese. The four major tasks of this Commission are: first, to define strategies for implementing stewardship at the Diocesan and parish levels; second, to help create materials for stewardship appeals; third, to advise the Office of Stewardship Development staff in their efforts to further the stewardship message; and fourth, to serve as a model for parish stewardship commissions.

The Commission has helped make significant strides in bringing the stewardship message to the people of the Diocese of Rockford. In 1998 the Commission reviewed policies relative to the parish tithe and the conducting of capital campaigns. This review led to the Goals for the Implementation of Stewardship for the Diocese of Rockford, which were approved by Bishop Doran in May of 1998. The Commission was instrumental in reviewing and discussing the United In Faith Endowment Campaign prior to the Bishop’s final approval. Along with these major accomplishments the Commission has also helped the Office of Stewardship Development continue promoting the stewardship message across the Diocese.

The membership of the Commission is made up of two representatives from each of the seven deaneries, one representative who is a liaison to the Diocesan Finance Council, and the three staff members of the Office of Stewardship Development.
